Before you can begin knitting, you must cast on your first row of stitches. There are probably 10 or 20 different ways on can cast on. We are going to show you the easiest way. (At least we think it is.)

ONE OF THE FIRST STEPS TO LEARNING HOW TO KNIT IS TO LEARN HOW TO CAST ON! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO IT:
- yarn
- knitting needles
Confidently Casting On – Step 1
To do so, first tie a slip knot on your knitting needle.
Confidently Casting On – Step 2
Hold the knitting needle with the slipknot in your left hand. Wrap the yarn around your right index finger as shown in the photo.
Confidently Casting On – Step 3
Once the yarn is wrapped around your index finger put your index finger next to the needle and slide the yarn over the needle.
Confidently Casting On – Step 4
Pull down on the yarn. This is one cast on. Do this as many times as your pattern calls for. Example, if your pattern tells you to cast on 18 stitches. Then you need to cast on 17, because your slipknot counts as one.
You now know how to cast on!
