THIS AUTUMN LEAVES QUILTED TABLE RUNNER LOOKS AMAZING ON ANY TABLE! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE IT:
- 2.5″ scrap strips from autumn colors and prints fabric
- packaged quilt binding
- quilt batting
- fabric for back of runner
- basic sewing supplies
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 1
Begin your quilt by cutting your autumn and fall fabrics into 2.5″ strips. The strips can be anywhere from 4″ long to 12″ long. The more scattered and different size in length, the better. That’s what makes this look like a “scrappy” quilt!

Next you are going to sew the short ends together to form strips that are 24″ long. You can make your table runner as long as you want, but the one I made is 24″ long. Then you are going to press all of your seams of your strips to one side.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 3
You are going to continue making strips until you have your desired length for your table runner. I made mine 14″ wide. Once you have the strips at the length you want pin and sew all the strips together.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 4
Time to appliqué some leaves onto your table runner. There are two ways you can do this. The first way is if you have large leaves pre-printed on fabric you can just use those leaves. Put them where you like them using the directions found on heatbond or some other type of fusible paper.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 5
The second way you can add leaves is to draw or print out a leaf pattern. Then cut out three different color leaves for each side of the table runner. Using the directions on the back of your fusible paper iron-on press your leaves onto the top of your runner.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 6
Now you are going to stitch veins onto your leaves like the ones shown above.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 7
Then, cut a piece of quilt batting and fabric for the back of the table runner the size of your table runner top. Sandwich the quilt batting in-between the quilt top and the quilt bottom piece. Quilt the three layers of the runner as desired. (I used the stitch-in-the-ditch method.) After that sandwich the quilted table runner within the quilt binding. Pin it all in place.

Now you are either going to fold the bias tape around the corner edges, or cut the bias tape and then over lap the corner. This is a total preference of the person sewing.
Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner – Step 9
Finally sew around the edge of the quilt binding as shown.
Your Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner is now ready to be displayed this fall season!
