It’s so nice to have such thoughtful students here in our little sewing studio. Marina’s artwork she made me is “cute as a button!” She handmade this decorative canvas art as a gift for me for my birthday. How thoughtful is that!
Everybody has a button jar at home, right? Well, now here is a pretty project you can make with all those buttons!
This easy DIY project makes a nice gift for a teacher or just to hang on the wall in your craft room. I have my colorful button tree art hanging right next to my colorful thread holder display.
The directions are simple.
- Gather an art canvas the size you would like.
- With a pencil draw a simple tree with branches on the canvas.
- Hand paint the tree and branches on the canvas.
- Arrange buttons of all sizes onto the canvas until you are happy where they are placed.
- Save the tiny buttons for the outer edges.
- Glue colorful buttons onto the tree branches.
- Sign and date the back of your artwork.
Other types of Button Tree Art that would be fun to make:
- Glue all white, off white, and silver buttons for a “Winter Wonderland Button Tree.”
- Glue all fall colors like brown, rust, gold, green buttons for an “Autumn Button Tree.”
