Tis the season to decorate your home with this lovely Christmas Fabric Yo-Yo Doily. Fabric Yo-Yo Quilts and Doilies date back to the depression times when every inch of fabric was used and nothing was wasted. Today, they are handmade and used as room decorations, quilts, pillows, and more. This project is completely made by hand sewing.

Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 1
Start by gathering up some Christmas fabrics. I chose to use red and cream fabrics since everything is green and red for Christmas. Then you are going to pin and cut out 16 circles from different colored fabrics. You can make your own pattern or feel free to use our free Yo-Yo Doily Pattern.
Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 2
Now you are going to make your yo-yo’s. Make one yo-yo at a time. They are very easy to make. Thread a needle and knot the end. Do a simple quick running stitch on the edge of the circle as shown in the photo.
Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 3
Once you have gone all the way around the circle, pull the threads and you will see the edges of the yo-yo come up, just like the photo.
Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 4
Continue pulling up the threads and knot the end to hold your yo-yo in place. With your fingers adjust the yo-yo so that the circle looks nice and even. Continue these steps until you have 16 yo-yo’s.
Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 5
Once you have completed all 16 yo-yo’s arrange them in the order the way you would like to sew them on and press all them flat.
Christmas Yo-Yo Doily – Step 6
Finally hand sew the yo-yo’s together by simply tacking them with little stitches as shown in the photo. Continue doing this until all of your yo-yo’s are stitched together.
Your Christmas Yo-yo Doily is now complete and ready to add some Christmas cheer to any table!
