And yet I think when it comes to highly personal objects like this charming VERY EASY TO SEW Pom Pom Beanie, making it can mean so much more when we put our own love into the process. Maybe it doesn’t have the perfection of a factory produced item, but it is a product of our time, care, and love, and that makes it so much more meaningful. I carefully consider each gift I make for those I love, and I often ask myself that if instead of buying an item, could I instead gain the knowledge and experience of creating it? THIS COZY POM-POM BEANIE IS JUST WHAT YOU NEED THIS WINTER SEASON! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE IT:
- Fleece Fabric
- Faux Fur Pom Pom (You can purchase these in all sorts of colors, but I prefer the natural earth tone colors.)
- Basic Sewing Supplies
DIY Faux Fur Pom-Pom Beanie – Step 1
You can custom make this hat by measuring the head it will be placed on and add 1″. That is your length measurement. If you don’t have a head measurement available, I measured all the girls in the studio ages 12 to adult and all of them were 19.5-21.5 inches. So there is not much of a difference in most head measurements, and the fleece fabric will stretch around the head also. So when I don’t have a measurement available, I use 21″.
The height will be 16″. So for me, I cut a pice of fabric 21″ x 16″.
Fold your fabric in half length wise and pin and stitch down one of the 16″ sides.
Measure a line 6″ across, and cut that fabric so that you will now have two tubes, as shown in the photo above. one will be the top of the beanie, and the other will be the band of the beanie.
DIY Faux Fur Pom-Pom Beanie – Step 2
Turn your hat band pretty sides out. Fold your band in half and pin the top raw edges together. Sew the two edges around the band along the pressure foot edge.
DIY Faux Fur Pom-Pom Beanie – Step 3
Next, pin your band over top of the UGLY side of your hat top piece. Make sure to match your seams. Sew around the tube pressure foot edge making sure that your don’t catch the other side of your hat.
DIY Faux Fur Pom-Pom Beanie – Step 4
On the inside of your hat you are going to hand sew around the top of your hat doing a running stitch. Once you have got all the way around the loop pull your thread so that it bunches up the top of the hat. Stitch through your bunches and knot your thread to secure it. I do this several times to make sure it stays in place with all the wear and tear the hat will have.

The last step you are going to do is turn your hat right sides out and hand sew on your pom pom to the top of your hat.
