MAKE THE PEFECT EASTER DECORATION FOR HOUSE WITH THESE ADORABLE CHICKS IN A BASKET! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE IT:
- scraps of golden fabrics
- scraps of green felt for the leaves
- black embroidery thread
- craft stuffing
- basic sewing supplies
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 1
The first thing we are going to do is make the pattern for your chicks. Using an 8.5″X11″ piece of computer paper, draw a circle pattern about the size you want your fabric spring chick to be.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 2
Draw a swirl as shown in the photo. This will create your chick pattern.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 3
Cut out and label your pattern. Always keep your patterns when you are done using them. You never know when you may need it again.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 4
Next fold fabric in half. Pin and cut two for each chick. One for front and one for the back.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 5
This next step is optional. If you want the decorative flower and button on your chick cut a circle the size you want the flower to be.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 6
Now cut little “V”s to form a flower.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 7
Cut stems from green fabric or felt. Pin the stems and flower to the pretty side of ONE chick front.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 8
Stitch around the flower and hand sew a button on as the center of the flower.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 9
Pin the front and back of the chick PRETTY SIDES TOGETHER. Leave a 3.5″ opening where the double pins are shown in the photo. Stitch around the chick using the pressure foot as your guide. Turn chick pretty side out and stuff with fiberfill.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 10
For the eye you can use a sharpie, small button, or make a French knot. If you want to make a French knot use 3 strands of black embroidery thread. Bring needle up from bottom where you want the eye to be.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 11
Twist thread around needle three times as shown in the photo.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 12
Place needle back down very close to the spot it came up. This will form a French knot which is commonly used as “eyes” on craft projects.
Basket of Spring Chicks – Step 13
Hand stitch the opening closed. Cut a small diamond shape of felt to use for the chicks beak. Hand sew the beak on.
Your adorable little fabric spring chicks are ready to be put in a basket and welcome friends and family for the spring weather and Easter holiday.
