MY MOTHER ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS VICTORIAN SILHOUETTE PILLOW AND YOURS WILL TOO! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE IT:
- lace
- black fabric
- wonder-under or some type of Heat Bond
- Victorian looking fabric
- stuffing
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 1
First find a photo of your mom and trace the side view to make a silhouette, or just use a sketch of your own, or find something on the internet or in a magazine that you could easily trace around the outer shape.
Then cut your Victorian fabric into two squares about the size you would like your sachet. I cut mine into a 7″ square.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 2
Following the manufacturers guidelines on the heat bond iron the heat bond on the ugly side of the black fabric. Place your silhouette on top of the black fabric and very carefully cut out the silhouette.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 3
Remove the backing of the heat bond. Very carefully press the silhouette onto the pretty side of one of the Victorian pieces of fabric.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 4
Now pin lace to the pretty side of the top of your pillow as shown in the photo. Notice the lace is facing IN. When you turn your pillow pretty side out after sewing it, THEN your lace will be on the outside.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 5
Pin your pillow pieces pretty sides together, as shown in the photo. Make an area where you would like to leave a 4″ opening. I like to put two pins in the shape of an X so that I remember where to start and stop.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 6
Next stitch around the pillow using the pressure foot as your guide. DON’T forget to leave an opening. Trim your pillows seams and clip corners as shown in the photo. Make sure you aren’t trimming them to close to your stitches as you don’t want to accidentally cut your sewing.
Victorian Silhouette Pillow – Step 7
Turn your sachet pretty side out through the opening. Poke out the corners with a pencil and stuff your pillow. Hand stitch the opening closed. Finally spray your sachet with your mom’s favorite scent.
There…Your mom will enjoy and cherish her Victorian silhouette sachet you made just for her!
