I want to share with you probably my best project I have ever made, and for several reasons, my flannel hand warmers made from organic cherry pits.
The first reason is, this is the perfect gift and/or stocking stuffer for the man or lady in your life who is always cold. It’s perfect for someone who likes to take walks during the colder months! These are also perfect and helpful for anyone who has Raynaud’s disease.
For those of you who sell items at crafts shows, these hand warmers are my number one selling product of my 35 years of selling crafts, gifts, and home decor at craft shows. I have sold more of these then any other item I have made! They are super popular and because they are all natural, they seem to be always trending.
But these are also wonderful just for yourself too! These can be placed in the freezer to help keep you cool on those hot days , or placed in the microwave to keep your hands or pocket hot and warm you right up. They can even be damp for moist heat for healing. They can be thrown in the wash to clean, and make wonderful gifts for anyone, just about any age, during any season!
I told you these are probably the best project I have ever made! You will love them!

I LOVE THESE HOMEMADE HAND WARMERS AND YOU WILL TOO HERE IS WHAT I USED TO MAKE THEM:
- plaid flannel fabric
- organic cherry pits
- jute rope (if you are making these to sell or as a gift)
- basic sewing supplies
Flannel Hand Warmers – Step 1
Start by cutting out four 5″ squares of fabric.
Flannel Hand Warmers – Step 2
Place two of the 5″ squares pretty sides together and pin three of side edges. Sew at the pressure foot edge of fabric. Make sure to back-stitch at the beginning and the end.
Flannel Hand Warmers – Step 3
Trim around the edge of your fabric and clip the corners, making sure that you don’t cut into your stitching. Next, turn your hand warmer pretty sides out and poke out the corners.
Flannel Hand Warmers – Step 4
Fill your hand warmer a little bit more than half way. If you have something to weigh it with it should be about 2.6-2.7 oz.
Flannel Hand Warmers – Step 5
Fold the raw edges of the top of the hand warmer in and pin like the image above. Finally, sew it at the pressure foot. Make sure you back-stitch at the beginning and end for reinforcement so the cherry pits don’t fall out.
You now have some lovely hand warmers to keep you and your loved one warm this winter! Place your hand warmers in the microwave for 20-30 seconds intervals. Let cool for a few minutes before use. Or, place in the freezer until cold.

Where do you get the cherry pits?
Judi Harris
Hi Lynn,
We get them off a cherry tree farm. But lately we’ve been getting them from the cherrypitstore.com. Hope that helps! Thank you, Judi
