Okay… so I made this cute skirt from fabric my dad brought back from Africa on a business trip. I had some left over fabric, and an old pair of jeans that were torn up…What to do? I made this neat 9 patch pillow!

YOU WILL LOVE THIS TWIST ON THE 9 SQUARE PILLOW WITH THE ADDED RECYCLED DENIM! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE IT:
- old pair of jeans
- fabric for opposite squares
- basic sewing supplies
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 1
The legs of jeans work best for this project. The size of your pillow will be determined by the size of your squares. You can use any size you want but I used 6″. You will be using the pressure foot as your guide when you sew. Cut four 6″ squares from old jeans, and five 6″ squares from a fabric of your choice.
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 2
Next line up your squares on a table the way you want them to look.
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 3
Begin by sewing two squares pretty sides together down one side. Then sew another square to form a row. You should have three rows of three squares each.
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 4
Now we will be sewing the rows together. Pin two rows pretty sides together and matching the seams. Stitch seam. Do the same to the third row until you have the top of your pillow done.
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 5
For the back of the pillow, cut a piece of fabric the same size as your pillow top. Place the pillow top and the fabric back pretty sides together and pin around the outer edge of the pillow. Leave a 4-5″ opening. Stitch around the pillow.
Denim 9 Patch Pillow – Step 6
Finally trim the pillow’s seams and clip corners. Turn the pillow pretty side out through the opening where you did not sew. Stuff your pillow and hand sew the opening closed.
You have just recycled and helped saved our planet, and made an awesome craft…great job! We’d love to see a photo of your recycled project!
