WHAT COULD BEE A BETTER COSTUME FOR YOUR AMERICAN GIRL DOLL THIS HALLOWEEN! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE IT:
- black and yellow felt
- orange and black fabric for bag
- ribbon for bag, mask, and hat
- black pipe cleaner
- basic sewing supplies
American Girl Doll Bumble Bee Costume – Step 1
First using a luncheon plate as your pattern, trace and cut 2 circles from yellow felt fabric.
American Girl Doll Bumble Bee Costume – Step 2
Cut 1″ strips from black felt and pin on one yellow circle as shown. Sew along the edges of the black strip pieces. Trim excess black felt around the circle.
American Girl Doll Bumble Bee Costume – Step 3
Place the front and back of the bumble bee pieces together with the pretty sides showing. Hold the round bumble bee up to the doll and place pins at the shoulder points as shown in the photo. You will not be sewing in-between the 2 pins. This is where the dolls head will fit to put the costume on.
American Girl Doll Bumble Bee Costume – Step 4
Then measure DOWN 2.5″ from each pin around the outer edge of the bumble bee and place another pin. Do this to both sides. (You are creating a shoulder seam to hold the costume on with this step.) Stitch the 2.5″ on each side of the bumble bee circle. Leave the top open for her head to go through.
American Girl Doll Bumble Bee Costume – Step 5
Cut out wings from white felt. Pin the wings on the center of the back piece. Sew a straight line down the center of the wings to hold them in place. Make sure you only sew down the back of the bumble bee and not the front and the back together.
Bumble Bee Antennas – Step 1
Place a piece of black elastic around your dolls head for a measurement. Add an extra inch. Cut. Pin, then stitch the elastic together by overlapping the ends of the elastic to form a circle.
Bumble Bee Antennas – Step 2
Fold one long black pipe cleaner in half. Curl the ends by wrapping the pipe cleaner around a pencil. Hand sew the pipe cleaner onto the elastic at the fold.
Mask for American Girl Doll Costume – Step 1
Trace the outer edge of a quarter on a piece of black scrap fabric.
Mask for American Girl Doll Costume – Step 2
Leaving a 1/2″ space in-between trace another circle around a quarter as shown in the photo.
Mask for American Girl Doll Costume – Step 3
Next cut around each circle as shown to create a mask. Then cut little circles for the dolls eyes to see out of the center of each circle in the mask. Pin and sew a piece of ribbon on each end of the mask as shown.

Your American girl doll’s Halloween mask is finished!
Bag for American Girl Doll Costume – Step 1
Now let’s begin your American Girl Trick-or-Treat bag! Cut a piece of fabric measuring 4″x9″. Fold both short ends toward the wrong side of the fabric 1/4″ and stitch.

Fold the bag in half pretty sides together and stitch along both sides.

Now turn bag pretty side out. Stitch a piece of ribbon on each side of bag.

Your American girl dolls Trick-or-Treat bag is finished!
