Hi Friends!
I’m excited to share with you how I decorated for fall this year. Except for the last two years due to covid, I’ve hosted Thanksgiving for the past 22 years, so I’m extra excited for this year to be with the whole family again.
I find my home feels far more meaningful when it is filled with things I have created myself, and filled with crafts and art work that my children have created. So, my home is sprinkled with handmade fabric pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. I wanted to keep my fall decorating simple and natural. Adding dried oranges not only brought a vibrant natural color to our Thanksgiving tree, but it also made a wonderful memory that my grandson Noah and I had drying the orange slices.
I’ve thought about decorating a Thanksgiving tree for several years, but this is my first time following through with the thought, and I love it! I kept it simple for my Thanksgiving decorating with my main focus on the tree and bringing in dried hydrangeas from my front yard to place throughout the living and dining areas where I will be entertaining.
On the tree is natural dried hydrangeas from my yard, dried sliced oranges, pheasant feathers, faux apples, brown ornament balls, and little woodland animals. I added brown and cream colored stripe ribbon throughout.
I love my Thanksgiving tree topper! The pheasant bird really does top this tree off! He sits up high almost as if he is guarding his territory full of acorns, apples, and oranges!
Back in early September my sister and I spent some time outside searching for the perfectly round blooms on my hydrangea bushes to bring in and dry for my fall decorating. I wanted to bring in the home as much as nature outside would allow. Last week, I also cut branches of fall foliage in beautiful colors to add to my center pieces throughout the home.
Everyone has been asking me how I got the hydrangeas to be such a pretty green color. I just cut them when they turned the color I wanted. I waited patiently, but I wanted that green color for them. Then I place them in a vase with about 1/2″ of water in it, and just let the water dry out, and the stem, and then last the flower part dry out. They have kept their shape, firmness, and color ever since.
Here’s What’s On My Thanksgiving Tree:
- Brown and Cream Stripe Thick Ribbon:
- Pheasant Tree Topper
- Brown Ornament Balls
- Pheasant Feathers
- Realistic Faux Apples
- Woodland Animal Ornaments
- Acorn and Pinecone Ornaments
I kept my fire place mantel simple with placing my collection of faux pumpkins across the mantel, and adding some autumn leaves and stems in white vases on the side; simple, clean, and natural.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make your home feel cozy and ready for Thanksgiving when you can find such beauty outside to bring in the home for your autumn decorating.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I decorated my first Thanksgiving Tree! May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday together!
