If your puppy or dog loves to play fetch or tug-of-war with braided ropes, she will love this fun eight-legged Octopus toy made from old t-shirts and an old tennis ball. It’s quick and easy to make and requires no sewing at all! I made our new Golden Retriever puppy, Kody (Dakota), a octopus dog toy and she loved playing with her new toy, Ali the Octopus.

CREATE A SPECIAL OCTOPUS DOG TOY FRIEND FOR YOUR DOGGIE! HERE IS WHAT WE USED TO MAKE OURS:
- 2 old t-shirts
- a tennis ball
- permanent black marker
- scissors
- a precious pup or dog to play with the octopus dog toy
Octopus Ball Dog Toy – Step 1
Start by gathering all of your materials. I used two but you can use two different color t-shirts, or four different color t-shirts to make this project.

Then cut the bottom of a t-shirt 4.5″. After that measure again another 4.5″ and cut again.

If you are using two t-shirts, you will need two strips from each t-shirt. If you are using four t-shirts, you will just need one strip from each t-shirt.

Next cut the tube so that you have a long strip. Do this to each of the tubes you cut.

Now place two of the four strips into the shape of a “t” with the centers in the middle as shown. This is the part the octopus face will go on.

Then place the next two strips into an “X” shape as shown. Place the ball in the middle.

Wrap the ball around all layers and gather the strips at the bottom of the ball as shown. Cut a small piece of t-shirt from the left over pieces measuring about 1″ X 10″. Tie a VERY tight knot at the neck of the octopus. Tie several knots to hold it in place.

Take one of the “legs” or “strips” and cut them into 3 equal pieces as shown.

Braid the three strips together until you get near the bottom. Tie a self knot using the leg. Tie it nice and tight. Since this is a knit fabric this will be easy to do.

Finally, using a permanent marker and draw a cute face onto the octopus head.
Your octopus dog toy is now finished and ready to let your best friend play with her new special toy you just made her!
