Rustic Burlap Pumpkin

What a better way to decorate your home then with this rustic twist on a classic pumpkin. I love to decorate my house with lots of pumpkins but they always go bad. By making pumpkins to decorate my house with I can reuse them for many years. Additionally I love the rustic look that I with this burlap pumpkin!

GET THE PERFECT FALL LOOK WITH BY MAKING THIS RUSTIC BURLAP PUMPKIN! HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE IT:

  • 1/3 yard of burlap
  • jute rope
  • stick from a tree branch
  • orange folk art paint
  • beans, rice, sand, or stuffing beads, or pellets
  • craft stuffing or fiberfill
  • basic sewing supplies

Rustic Burlap Pumpkin – Step 1

To start you are going to pin and cut out four of the pumpkin pattern. To make you life easier to can fold your fabric in half twice so that you only have to cut once to get four pieces. You can also use our free Rustic Burlap Pumpkin Pattern!

Rustic Burlap Pumpkin – Step 2

Next you are going to put two of the burlap pieces together and sew down one of the curved side seams pressure foot edge. Then do the same for the other two burlap pieces.

Now you are going to place your two sewn pieces together making sure that the seams are on the outside. Pin and sew up the left and right seams that are remaining so that only the top and bottom of your pumpkin is open.

To close the bottom of your pumpkin you are going to cut a 3.5″ square and pin over the bottom as shown above. Then sew around the making sure to pivot at the corners.

Now you are going to fill the bottom of the pumpkin 1/3 of the way with rice, beans, or plastic craft pellets. Stuff the rest of the pumpkin with craft stuffing. After that use orange paint to paint your pumpkin.

Finally, place a stick in the top center of the pumpkin and wrap the jute rope around tying a knot to hold in place. Continue wrapping the rope around catching the burlap and the stem. Hot glue the ends of the rope to hold in place.

Make from burlap fabric and orange paint a pumpkin for fall.
