The Twins Woodland Themed Nursery Reveal

Sharing is caring!

Hello friends! Thanks for spending some time with me today! I love how the twins new nursery turned out. It is one of my favorite rooms in the house. A smile comes across my face when I see those two little precious babies sleeping or playing in such a cute nursery! When they take out all their little woodland animals to play with, it’s like they have their very own little rustic cottage in the woods. I want to share with you the projects I did for the nursery. I hope in some way it also puts a smile on your face too, and inspires you to create something today. Most of this nursery was DIY projects and handmade crafts I bought from fellow crafters on ETSY, or I made myself. Enjoy my little tour of our woodland themed nursery for twins.

My son and his little family moved in with us for several months so they could save for a house of their own. So with that, I had to up date our guest bedroom that had a single bed and a crib in it into a full time nursery for my twin grand-babies, Emma and Noah.  The first thing I did was clean out the room and paint the walls. Do you like this color? It is called Pillow Case by Benjamin Moore. The very next project I took on for the woodland nursery is those adorable woodland animal heads on the wall. I knew I wanted a neutral gender woodland nursery so I based the entire nursery around these three stuffed animals heads I made.

3 woodland animal fabric stuffed heads deer bear fox

I made the bear head, deer head, and fox head all from repurposed vintage wool skirts, scarves, jackets and blazers! How awesome is that! I really enjoyed making those adorable woodland animal heads. I bought the pattern off a lady from ETSY. I’ve been sewing for 40 plus years, and rest assure, her pattern and directions were the best I have ever experienced in all my years of sewing. Everything was written very clearly.

Next I worked on the wall that the cribs are against. I wanted the three stuffed animals heads to be the main focus in the room, so I made that wall extra special with the charming whimsical wallpaper of the deer frolicking in the forest. I love this wallpaper! To me it gives the feeling of an enchanting charming cottage in the woods. For the bottom of the wall I used a peel-n-stick Shiplap wallpaper. Both were very easy to put up, and I was able to complete the wall in one afternoon. If you’d like to use anything I have shown in my photos, I will have links at the bottom of the page for you.

wooden little fox and squirrel

There is no way I could not pass up buying these 2 little adorable handmade baby woodland animals, the baby fox, and the baby squirrel. Aren’t they just darling? I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them.

wooden crates with woodland animals in them

For storage area of their toys and to keep with the woodland theme, I used stained wooden crates that I bought off an Amish farm in Lancaster, PA. My husband screwed them to the walls so they would be nice and sturdy and safe for the children. I stocked them up with a cluster of different sized woodland animals and woodland baby story books.

robin hood and little john song oo de lolly what a day

I absolutely love this sign that my BFF made for me with her Cricut machine. Written is the words from Disney’s original 1973 Robin Hood movie which was one of my son’s favorite Disney movies when he was a little boy. The song is “oo-de-lally, oo – de- lally, golly what a day”. A smile and laughter comes to the twins when I put them both on my lap and bounce them up and down singing this song. But I change the words to “Emma Jane and Little John were walking through the forest…” I began singing this song to them when they were only 7 months old because my grandson looks just like my son. So we occasionally will call Noah “Little John”. I trash picked this sign, took it home and cleaned it and painted it with white chalk paint. That sign sat around my sunroom for 2 years until I finally found an adorable idea for it! This piece of decor did not cost me a single penny, and look how charming and cute it turned out! As soon as the twins are able to hold hands and walk together steadily, I am going to take a picture of them from the back walking in the forest together and enlarge that to put near the sign.

changing table in nursery

Emma and Noah both have their own dressers. We kept Emma’s as a changing table and my husband hung floating shelves above it. To entertain them while they are getting their diapers changed, I decorated the shelves with more charming woodland baby animals, and hung a laundry line of their newborn socks, a short sleeve newborn onesie, and the hand knitted hats they came home from the hospital in, when they were born.

window with wood trim and brown curtains and little woodland tree

A fun, simple, and fast DIY project I did as a final touch to their woodland nursery was to add the wide wood trim around the window and as a chair rail on my accent wall. I bought peel and stick-on thin wood planks from reclaimed wood in white to look like shiplap on my wall at my summer cottage. I had 2 boxes left over so I thought they would look rustic separating my two wallpapers on my wall, but when I put them up I didn’t like it. I decided to experiment, and I sanded them lightly while they were still on the wall, because there was no peeling them off at this point. After I sanded them, I added stain to them and wiped it dry with an old rag. I love the way they turned out! You can save time and buy it in a wood tone finish color instead of staining them.

branch hooks

I found these awesome hanging hooks made from real tree branches on Amazon! They fit the woodland rustic theme well! The two on the left hold Emma’s hair bands with bows, and the two on the right hold Noah’s bow ties!

brown and pink teddy bear pillow and snow covered pink mountain pillow

To add a touch of personalization for each baby I made a cute brown teddy bear face trimmed in pink faux fur, and a snow covered pink mountain pillow for Emma’s crib. For Noah’s crib, I made him a fox face pillow and a green and brown tree pillow because he loves to say the word tree! Another project we are adding to the nursery will be made by my their mommy, Baylee. I will be teaching my daughter-in-law how to sew, and together, we are going to make a small quilt for each baby with their name on it. That DIY project will be posted soon.
